Introducing Town Pulse: Shoot 'Em Up on Fridays with 9-Ball Pool Tournament at Local Bar

Professional pool player Mike Hermosillo decides to bring the competition to a local level.

Every Friday, Vista resident Mike Hermosillo drives the 30 minutes to Poway’s to set up for the evening’s 9-Ball pool tournament.

He’s been shooting pool for a few years now and is a member of the American Poolplayers Association League, the North County Men’s Pool League and the TAP League. He practices about five nights a week

“To me, it’s a challenge to try to be the best at what I can be,” Hermosillo said.

Recently, he brought a little competition to the game at a local level by coordinating tournaments at different bars throughout the county. He started at Vista’s Scotland Yard before branching out to Poway.

“I’ve been doing it here for them for about a month,” he said.

The tournament starts at 7 p.m. and costs $8. There are no handicaps and the game pays out at 60, 30 and 10 percent for first, second and third place. For more information, call 858-486-3720.
