Lightning Reported In San Diego: More Rain, Clouds, Wind Predicted

SAN DIEGO, CA — Summer is off to a dramatic start in San Diego as a thunderstorm brought lightning strikes to the area.

“You’re not imagining things. Several lightning strikes have been detected with a thunderstorm that moved over Poway and is now heading towards Escondido. The strikes could be seen from Carlsbad and Oceanside,” the National Weather Service tweeted around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The NWS also confirmed that Poway recorded 0.17 inches of rain as the thunderstorm, which originated in Baja, moved west.

The thunderstorm followed a dramatic sunset with giant, red and golden-hued cumulus clouds.

On Wednesday, San Diego is in for a windy, cloudy, and possibly rainy day. Accuweather predicts a 25 percent chance of precipitation, a one percent chance of thunderstorms, and 0.5 inches of rain, with gusts of up to 25 percent. Forty-seven percent cloud cover is expected.

Flash flooding is possible in some parts of San Diego County, the National Weather Services predicted, as scattered showers and thunderstorms develop from south to north.

Temperatures are expected to remain sunny and in the mid-70s the rest of the week.
