Officials say unifying the Escondido and Poway hospitals under this authority is crucial to refinancing Palomar's heavy bond debt and stabilizing services, with public hearings still required later this year. 
• Widow of California man killed by school bus sues district (amedpost.com) — A wrongful-death lawsuit is targeting Poway Unified School District after a 69-year-old man was fatally struck by one of its school buses while walking his dogs in Rancho Peñasquitos. The suit alleges unsafe routing and a history of bus-related incidents tied to Poway Unified, while the driver faces a misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter charge with a court date set for late October.
