Poway Election 2017 Results: Measure A Fails

Poway's special election was the only election held in San Diego County.

POWAY, CA – Poway voters defeated a measure that would have rezoned part of the Stoneridge Country Club property to allow for the development of dozens of condominiums.

With all the precincts reporting, 62.28 percent of voters voted against Measure A, while 37.72 percent voted in favor, according to unofficial results released Tuesday night by the San Diego County Registrar of Voters. A total of 10,357 votes have been counted. An estimated 1,600 ballots were still outstanding.

Measure A would have amended the city's general plan to rezone up to 25 acres of the county club, clearing the way for the construction of up to 180 luxury condos for residents over 55 years old.

Council members did not take a position on Measure A because, if the measure had passed, the project would have been subject to the city's full development approval process and would have ultimately come before the council for consideration.

Polls were open until 8 p.m. at 28 locations around Poway. Registered voters unable to make it to a polling place in the city were also able to cast ballots at the Registrar of Voters office in Kearny Mesa.
