Poway Senior Center Remains Closed

The Poway Senior Center remains closed, but the center’s board of directors and the City of Poway continue to work together to connect older adults with services during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Poway Valley Senior Citizens Corp. (PVSCC) is the nonprofit organization that runs the senior center, with the mission to help older adults live robustly and independently. The senior center is, by its nature, a place that people gather for social interaction and companionship, to be connected to services, for educational and recreational activities, and for meals.
Even as the state begins modifying its stay at home orders, given the congregate services the center provides and the vulnerable population it serves, it appears unlikely the center will be able to reopen soon. The PVSCC recently made the difficult decision of laying off its paid staff members, including Executive Director Leslie Hoffman.

The Poway Senior Center lists resources for seniors on its website. The City of Poway is connecting residents with the citywide volunteer organization Poway Neighborhood Emergency Corps (PNEC). For a list of resources in our local area, residents can call or email PNEC at (858) 668-1250 or powaynec@gmail.com.
Both organizations recommend residents connect with 211 San Diego by dialing 2-1-1 or finding them online at 211sandiego.org. Additional organizations providing options for meals/food in the Poway area include:

The PVSCC Board of Directors and the City of Poway will continue to monitor changes to the county public health orders and determine at what point senior center operations can resume in a way that offers programming that is safe for participants and helps generate revenue to offset operating costs.
