• Stage 2 Fire Restrictions Start Today on Plumas NF (yubanet.com) — If you’re camping or recreating near Quincy on Plumas National Forest, Stage II fire restrictions now sharply limit where you can have campfires, smoke, or run engines off designated roads and trails. Officials stress that nearly all local wildfires this year are human-caused and urge residents and visitors to follow the new rules, check daily woodcutting status, and report any suspected fires via 911.
   

• Quincy Hub Reports Surge in Pacific Crest Trail Hikers (themountainmessenger.org) — Downtown Quincy’s Innovation Hub is seeing an unusually large wave of Pacific Crest Trail hikers this summer, bringing business to local stores and motels and highlighting local “trail angel” volunteers. At the same county meeting, supervisors heard about a relocation incentive bringing a new family to Chester and approved funds to fix the county jail’s walk-in freezer compressor.
