Congressman Duncan Hunter: Corporations Are People, But Women Are Not

Is the so-called "War on Women" a ginned-up conspiracy theory to make women paranoid? Maybe. But even if you're paranoid, that does not mean there isn't somebody after you.

We have a congressman too self-possessed to see he has it backwards.  When Duncan Hunter said a corporation is a person he advertised for sale himself and his vote.  Do the math. By definiton, a part-time prostitute cannot be a full-time representative.  That fact alone should deny him your vote.

Yet still worse, and the other half of his reversed and perverse thinking, this Hunter in Congress is a threat to women. The 37-year-old is the son and successor of the original Duncan Hunter (28-year congressman in District 52).  He endorses corporate "personhood" which can bring him unlimited money, but wants to deny American women their "personhood," most of the rights they've won after more than 100 years of struggle.

Women have been Hunter's main target since he ascended to his father's seat in 2008.  He is determined to make his personal religious and moral views into federal law, essentially returning women and girls to their subservient roles of an earlier time.  Whether it's the freedom to control their own bodies, equality in the workplace and in education, or the surety of Social Security and Medicare, this Duncan Hunter, son of Duncan Hunter, champions efforts to end them all.

(Due to redistricting, Hunter will be on the ballot in Temecula, Fallbrook, San Marcos and Escondido areas for the first time.)

This is Congressman Hunter's record.  It is clearly a War on Women.

1) He voted against equal pay for equal work (the Lily LedbetterAct).

2) He voted to weaken the "Violence Against Women Act."

3) He opposes a woman's right to choose, and her right to make her own personal healthcare decisions.  Most ominous, Hunter is the sponsor of H.R. 374, the "Life At Conception Act."  Todd "legitimate rape" Akin's a co-sponsor.  If it became law, it would bypass the Supreme Court and legislatively end a woman's right to choose.

Hunter would grant "personhood" and full 14th Amendment protections to a fertilized egg at the moment of conception.  No pregnancy could be terminated.

Hunter would ban the "morning after" pill in the case of rape or incest.  (A 1996 study by "The American Journal of Obstetrics and Gyecology" estimated 32,000 women and girls become pregnant due to rape each year. Many younger victims, particularly those who know the assailant, do not report and do not discover they are pregnant for months. This also happens among domestic violence victims.)

Hunter would outlaw in vitro fertilization, used by many couples unable to conceive normally.  It would outlaw many forms of birth control.

The failure of any pregnancy to end in live birth would have to be investigated to determine if the woman or girl had committed any crime, including murder, against the other "person."  In hopes of getting "personhood" through Congress, many have said "exceptions could be made" in the case of rape or incest.  The Act itself allows no exceptions.

4) Hunter voted to deny a working woman's access to insurance coverage for birth control if her employer claimed birth control was against his religion or "sense of morality," (the Blunt Amendment).

5) Hunter opposes funding for Pell Grants, vital for women with no access to the funds needed for university.

6) Hunter is opposed to keeping Social Security benefits, even though half of elderly single women rely on Social Security for 80% of their income.  For many it's their only income.

7) Hunter opposes keeping Medicare.  He believes it should be replaced by a "voucher" program with the elderly buying health insurance on the open market.

8) Hunter is against adequate funding of Medicaid for the elderly and disabled. Known for his "permanent war" ideology, in the same week this summer Hunter opposed reduced funding for the Air National Guard, but advocated for cuts to "Meals-On-Wheels."

9)  Hunter, a former Marine, has been AWOL regarding the epidemic of rape and sexual assault of women on active duty, not even a co-sponsor of the STOP (Sexual Assault Training, Oversight and Protection) Act.  His lack of support here reflects glaringly his lack concern for the interests of women generally.

10) He has voted to defund Planned Parenthood, the only source for cancer screening and healthcare for more than 3 million American women.  Hunter's positions show a preference for un-planned parenthood and the unnecessary early deaths of women due to undetected cancers.  How to fight back. VOTE.

This election is not about who you vote for, not "Brand A" or "Brand B."   This election is about what you are voting for. If you vote for Duncan Hunter you are voting for returning women and girls to the stone age.  If you vote for David Secor you are voting to protect a woman's right to make her own decisions.  You are voting for equality, for justice, and reason.

No congressperson, even one wearing a famous label, a "Duncan Hunter," should feel so entitled, and be so arrogant, as to tell his employers that he is their boss!  You, his bosses, will decide if this "Duncan Hunter," despite the famous label, must be let go.  Hunter himself  supplied the reason.  "When my ideology falls out of line with the people in my district I expect to be voted out."
