Ramona High School JNROTC Hosts Military Salute this Saturday!
Our local RHS JNROTC hosts a tremendous event to honor our veterans and the entire town is invited.
The Ramona Community Brass Band has a prominent role in this Saturday’s Ramona High School JNROTC's Military Salute. The event is open to the pubic and is NO charge and is being held at the Ramona HS Gymnasium ON CAMPUS - 1401 Hanson Lane, Ramona CA 92065
This is a veterans’ recognition ceremony featuring a silent auction, a recreation of the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknowns in Arlington National Cemetery with a wreath laying, a reading of names of all the fallen heroes from Ramona in all our previous wars and actions and a musical tribute during a Civil War timeline reading, with an emphasis on Civil War Sailors and Marines. An added highlight is that Mr. Abraham Lincoln will make an appearance to deliver his Gettysburg Address during this segment.
A silent auction will kick off around 4 PM with the brass band providing some John Philip Sousa style patriotic music and a colors ceremony at 5 PM leads into the tomb presentation, wreath laying and reading of names. After this the brass band will run through the timeline and at 7:30 PM the JNROTC members will recognize the Navy Birthday with a Cake Cutting and social hour.

Around 6:30 PM the Civil War portion will feature a reading of key events of the war year-by-year and music selections and corresponding photos and drawings to go with each event, leading into President Lincoln appearing - LIVE - to present his Gettysburg Address.
Since the high school’s JROTC unit is of the US Navy, this historical timeline will emphasize actions of the US Navy and Marine Corps. Many factors which lead to the south losing the war are due to actions of our Navy and Marine Corps and are little known or celebrated beyond the battle of the Monitor and the Merrimack, the
iconic iron-clads which are the grand daddies of the modern steel ships of
today.
Retired Navy Chief Petty Officer Bob Richardson, enlisted instructor for the unit, has said this is the ‘best show in Ramona no one every attends”, so this year they decided to move it to the week prior to Veterans Day and hope that more local folks will be in town to attend.
With the replica of the tomb, the recognition of local heroes, the music and photo exhibit, this looks to be a night of celebrating our military and the men and women who sacrifice daily to keep us free.
It’s all worthwhile when it supports a program like this and reinforces our values as American citizens, so please make time to come out and show your support for
our military and our local school’s program to build better American citizens.
Semper Fidelis, and thanks for reading.
