Earthquake Shakes North County Area

The temblor near Julian struck two days after a 3.4-magnitude quake was recorded near Lake Henshaw.

JULIAN, CA – A 2.9-magnitude earthquake was recorded Thursday morning in a rural area of San Diego County east of Julian.

The minor quake struck about 1 a.m. and had a depth of about 3 miles, according to a computer-generated report from the U.S.Geological Survey.

It occurred about 23 miles east of Julian and about 24 miles northeast of Alpine, the report said. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

The temblor follows a small, magnitude 3.4 earthquake that struck a rural corner of San Diego County Tuesday morning.

That temblor, which had a depth around four miles, was recorded near Palomar Mountain at 6 a.m., according to the USGS. The epicenter was located about 14 miles northeast of Ramona in an area near Lake Henshaw. Reports on the USGS "Did You Feel It?" map showed light shaking could be felt throughout inland North County and as far south as Spring Valley.
