Motorcyclist Killed in San Pasqual Valley Crash

The fatal collision on Highway 78 was reported at 4:15 p.m. Friday, according to San Diego police.

San Diego, CA — A motorcyclist was killed Friday in a crash with a Jeep on Highway 78 between Escondido and Ramona, near the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, authorities said.

The fatal crash occurred at about 4:15 p.m. as the victim, a man in his 20s, was driving a Kawasaki 650 motorcycle westbound in the 17000 block of San Pasqual Valley Road at a high rate of speed, San Diego police Officer Robert Heims said.

"He was going too fast into a turn and hit his brakes causing him to lose control and go into oncoming eastbound traffic," Heims said.

A blue Jeep driven by a 25-year-old male hit the motorcycle driver, who was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Heims.

Authorities closed 78 between Old Milky Way and Weekend Villa Road as the crash was being investigated.

The victim's identity had not been disclosed as of publication time

San Diego Police Traffic Division continues to investigate the collision and asked anyone with information about it to call San Diego County Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
