Update: Two Injured When Military Chopper Makes 'Hard Landing' at Ramona Airport

The California National Guard Black Hawk helicopter flipped over during the landing.

Update:

Two California National Guard aviators suffered minor injuries when the helicopter they were flying made a hard forced landing and flipped onto its side tonight in Ramona.

The UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter was extensively damaged by the landing, NBC7 reported; but the fliers were able to evacuate from the wreckage.

The incident occurred at around 5 p.m. during what was described by California National Guard Captain Will Martin as a routine training mission.

The forced landing was made at Ramona Airport on the 2900 block of Montecito Road.

The incident’s cause was not known but was under investigation, according to Martin.

Two people suffered minor injuries Tuesday night when a military helicopter overturned during a hard landing at Ramona Airport.

The accident at the county-owned general-aviation complex in the 2900 block of Montecito Road was reported shortly before 6 p.m., according to Cal Fire.

The two occupants were able to get out of the damaged U.S. Army aircraft on their own and were being treated for superficial injuries, said Kendal Bortisser, a fire captain with the state agency.

The cause of the crash was not immediately clear.
