• Salvage Yard Fire Damages Hundreds of Vehicles (ranchocordovaindependent.com) — A massive fire at an auto salvage yard on Recycle Road in Rancho Cordova damaged or destroyed more than 200 vehicles Friday evening but caused no injuries. About 70 firefighters from across Sacramento County contained the blaze and nearby vegetation fire, staying on scene for hours to extinguish hot spots while investigators work to determine the cause.

• Deer hunting applications open for ecological reserve (oakdaleleader.com) — If you hunt deer, you’ll need to work through CDFW’s Rancho Cordova office to apply for limited-access hunts at the Cosumnes River Ecological Reserve this season. Applications for A Zone hunts are due July 13, and D-5 Zone hunts by August 3, with permits awarded through a random drawing.

• July Fourth celebrations with illegal fireworks came at high cost - $300k in fines (sacbee.com) — Rancho Cordova residents are part of a region where fire agencies used drones and steep fines to crack down on illegal Fourth of July fireworks, including a six-figure penalty in Sacramento. Metro Fire, which serves Rancho Cordova, is still reviewing hundreds of complaints that could lead to more citations and costly penalties in coming months.
