Crane Topples, Closes Freeway Onramp

The noninjury accident occurred on the connector from eastbound state Route 56 to southbound Interstate 15.

NORTH SAN DIEGO -- A Rancho Penasquitos-area freeway onramp reopened Dec. 8 following the removal of a large crane that toppled onto its side and a cleanup of the hydraulic fluid that it subsequently spilled.

The noninjury accident on the connector from eastbound state Route 56 to southbound Interstate 15 occurred shortly before 4:30 p.m. Nov. 7 and caused a miles-long backup during rush-hour traffic, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The overturned crane prompted authorities to close the freeway connector ramps from both eastbound and westbound state Route 56.
