Elderly Man, Teen Injured in Crash Near Rancho Bernardo Retirement Home

The collision was reported at 6:15 p.m. Thursday, according to San Diego police.

San Diego, CA — An elderly motorist pulling out of a Rancho Bernardo-area retirement home's parking lot Thursday night slammed into a classic car, which left himself and a passenger in the second car seriously injured, police said.

The 87-year-old man behind the wheel of a 2002 Lexus turned into the path of a 1957 Chevy Bel Air on Pomerado Road near Avenida La Valencia about 6:15 p.m. Thursday, San Diego police Officer Robert Heims said.

The Lexus' driver suffered a collapsed lung and a spinal fracture in the crash and a 15-year-old boy, who was riding in the Bel Air with his dad, sustained facial fractures. Both were taken to hospitals to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries, Heims said.
