Dozens Named National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists

More than 40 local high students have been named semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship competition.

Officials recently announced the names of 16,000 semifinalists in the 58th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. 

The semifinalists—more than 40 of whom are from Del Norte, Rancho Bernardo and Westview high schools—are among the 1.5 million juniors in 22,000 high schools to apply for the program, which offers $32 million worth of scholarships. Winners will be announced beginning in April.
