Giving Back: RB High Choral Music Program

The RB High Choral Music Program was awarded $1,000 from the Rancho Bernardo Community Foundation for sheet music.

For the past 20 years, Lisa Friedrichs has led the Rancho Bernardo High School Choral Music program, crafting an in-demand soundtrack for community events.

"We do that because we need to do that," Friedrichs said of performances at for the past 18 years, rotary events and more.

"We try to do a lot of different things in the community," she said.

The program's elite group of singers—the black adorned Madrigals—even performed at an event that was created in part for them: the Rancho Bernardo Community Foundation's annual on Nov. 22.

They were honorees, receiving $1,000 for the choral music program which Friedrichs said will help pay for sheet music. A single piece can cost $2-$3 per person, which adds up quickly for a program of 150 singers, she said.

The director said she also hopes to buy new music, important for a program that performs so often and has done many of the same—albeit popular—songs for many years.

Friedrichs said she appreciates the support from the foundation.

"Thank you very much. Every little bit helps," she said.
