School Board Preview: Bonds and Graduation

The Poway Unified board is set to meet at 6 p.m.

The Poway Unified School District Board of Education is set to meet at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 10 at the district office, 15250 Avenue of Science, San Diego.

On the agenda (a full agenda is attached to this story):

  • Refunding Bonds: District officials would like to issue $60 million of refunding bonds to realize a net debt service savings on a portion of the $75 million in general obligation bonds issued in 2003 for School Facilities Improvement District 2002-1. Officials also are seeking approval to issue up to $39.5 million of special tax refunding bonds for Community Facilities Districts 6 and 10, and up to $2.25 million of special tax bonds for CFD No. 10.
  • Changing graduation requirements: The proposed changes would be applicable for the class of 2013: removing the computer proficiency and practical arts requirements; providing P.E. credit for junior varsity sports participation.
  • Receiving recognition: National Merit Semifinalists; Los Peñasquitos Elementary, National Blue Ribbon School; Poway High Robotics Team 1622; James Wang, Westview High sophomore, UC San Diego essay contest winner.
