The Poway Unified School District board is set to meet at 6 p.m. Monday.

The Poway Unified School District Board of Education is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. Monday at the district office, 15250 Avenue of Science, San Diego.

Here's a look at what's on the agenda (full agenda attached):

  • New School: Staff are recommending that the district build a K-8 campus near Del Norte High School, due to a projected need for space for 1,000 elementary students and 500 middle schoolers. Earlier this year, the district held a , involving staff, teachers and students to brainstorm about a new campus. The notion of K-8 campus was well-received then, and a series of executive design team meetings were held in November. BakerNowicki Design studio will present a conceptual design at Monday's meeting.
  • Synthetic Drugs: Starting in January, students can be suspended or expelled for possessing, selling or using synthetic drugs such as spice, k-2 and bath salts. District staff have added synthetic drug use/possession to the "Prohibited Acts" section of the district suspension/expulsion policy. The change is to be discussed at Monday's meeting.
  • Officer Elections: The board designated this meeting as its organizational session, where the board president, vice president and clerk are selected. Those positions are currently filled by Penny Ranftle, Linda Vanderveen and Andy Patapow, respectively.
