School Board Preview: Teacher Honors, New Contract

The board will officially recognize two teachers who recently won county honors.

The Poway Unified School District Board of Education is set to meet at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15 at the district office, 15250 Avenue of Science, San Diego.

  • Two of the three PUSD teachers of the year won countywide honors on Oct. 6: Oak Valley Middle School's Martin Reisert and Los Peñasquitos Elementary's Anthony Bayro. Both will be recognized on Monday. 

New Contract with SEIU 

  • The board will vote on final approval of a new three-year contract with the  Service Employees International Union Local 221 that includes a restoration of a 4.3 percent salary cut for the current school year, at a cost to the district of $555,000. The proposed contract would run through 2015.

Academic Performance Index (API) Scores

  • Officials will discuss the recent state report showing a five-point increase in PUSD's API score, which reflects student test performance. The district now sits at 892 (the state goal is 800) with 22 schools above 900.
