Woman Seriously Injured in 4S Ranch Crash Into Center Median: Police

Witnesses told police the woman was driving erratically for several blocks on Carmel Valley Road prior to the collision.

San Diego, CA — A 72-year-old woman suffered life-threatening injuries Tuesday in the 4S Ranch area when she drove onto a center median and struck a concrete block, police said.

The single-vehicle crash was reported at 2:42 p.m. at Carmel Valley Road and Winecreek Road in Black Mountain Ranch, according to San Diego police Sgt. Tom Sullivan.

Prior to colliding with the median, the woman was seen traveling eastbound on Carmel Valley Road, the sergeant said.

"Witnesses stated she had been driving erratically for several blocks," Sullivan said.

As she drove onto the median and struck a raised concrete block, the vehicle's undercarriage was forced up into the car, according to the sergeant.

The impact broke both the woman's ankles and caused her to also suffer a pelvic fracture, Sullivan said. Her injuries were considered life-threatening, he said.
