Your Own Local Museum!

Did you know local history goes back 10,000 years?

The Rancho Bernardo Historical Society is a non-profit organization, dedicated to preserving the local history and increasing public awareness through programs and outreach. As a non-profit we depend on the community to help us accomplish our mission: volunteers, donations and contributions, memberships, and gifts to our collections.

NEW!!! Welcome to our Online Collections Database! The Keyword Search button allows you to perform a general search across multiple fields for any catalog records online. Currently available are hundreds of photos with more being added daily.

Rancho Bernardo Historical Society also has a monthly Speakers Series . If you missed any, go to You Tube, RBHistoricalSociety, and check out past interviews. You'll also find Living History interviews with local seniors who tell us what it was like in RB, in bygone days.

Perhaps at the RB Alive! street fair, you visited us at the Cultural Center and saw the authentic Mudwagon (a stagecoach use on shorter, local excursions). This was hand built by some of our volunteers, but mostly the Bandy Blacksmith Shop, Escondido, and its volunteers.

There are wonderful history collections at the museum, and volunteers to help you search. Our Wall of Honor commemorates our local Military service people and anyone who has served is welcome.

All of the work is done by volunteers, and we need your help. Volunteers whom we will train as docents on weekends or during the week, even an hour or two is most appreciated. We are also seeking a volunteer Treasurer to keep our Quickbook accounts. We're not very complicated, so if you have book keeping and QB experience, we'd love your help. Please call Jane Harmon, our volunteer co-ordinator at 858-485-0387, you'll be glad you did!
