Friday Sunset Picnicking At Salt Creek Beach
Welcoming the weekend at Salt Creek Beach.

One Friday last summer, we were invited to watch the sunset at Salt Creek Beach. I was familiar with the beach adjacent to the Ritz Carlton in Dana Point where you park in a metered lot across the street and walk through the tunnel to emerge to a beach view with a welcoming, cool grass expanse but I had no idea it was such a happening place on late Friday afternoons.
It was quite a scene with gourmet meals and blankets spread making a patchwork across the lawn. Some picnickers brought music that wafted on the breeze and was pleasant to hear secondhand. Others dined with crystal wine goblets sparkling in the low hanging light of the sun. The terraced effect of the green hill lent everyone a view of the setting sun on the water with a decidely respectful party atmosphere.
Whether you decide to make it all the way down to the sand or stake your claim on the grass, late Friday afternoons at Salt Creek Beach is a nice way to begin the weekend with friends or with someone special.
