Council Creates Official Way To Donate to City

During the short meeting, officials also recognized more than a dozen locals who participated in the city's annual Community Emergency Preparedness Academy.

The City Council of Rancho Santa Margarita kept its meeting short and sweet Wednesday night, taking care of civic business in about a half-hour.

Anyone wishing to donate something to the city now has some official rules to follow.

The four-man, one-woman council approved a formal process for accepting items donated to the city for public benefit.

In the past, the city accepted gifts through an informal process, but the Council’s unanimous vote created an official protocol.

One of the reasons for this, according to Paul Boyer, city director of administrative services, is that staff expects donations to increase.

“This … leads us to believe that the time is now to put together a formal set of some guidelines,” Boyer said.

In addition to formalizing the process, the city created a form that people can fill out if they want to donate.

  • Notably, the Bell Tower Foundation announced that it was donating about $25,000 worth of Apple computers to the city for public use in the Cox Technology Center inside the Bell Tower Regional Community Center.
  • The city honored about 15 local residents for finishing the city’s Community Emergency Preparedness Academy.
  • The city council adjourned to closed session in honor of Thomas A. Yott, the first president of South County Bank, who passed away over the weekend. According to Councilmember Carol Gamble, Yott was a long time support of Rancho Santa Margarita. South County Bank has branches in Rancho Santa Margarita, Huntington Beach, Redlands and Moreno Valley.
