Democrats Propose Using Middle-class Scholarship Funds To Prevent Tuition Hikes for UC SYstem

Rather than deprive middle-class families of scholarships, CA Democrats should consider cutting programs and benefits for illegal immigrants

The Middle Class Scholarship program was suppose to cut tuition at UC and CSUs by 40 percent for California families making under $100,000 a year and 10 percent for families making under $150,000. California universities have seen historically high fee hikes over the past 10 years with tuition rates increasing by over 190 percent at UCs and by about 145 percent at CSUs. Students at UCs and CSUs currently pay an annual tuition of $12,192 and $5,472 respectively. This program was suppose to lower the college fees to $7,315 at UCs and $3,283 at CSUs beginning in the 2014-15 school year for families making under $100,000 a year.

The reason tuition is going up is because the State has made the choice to underfund education so that more money can go towards programs and entitlements for illegal immigrants.

New Programs and services for Illegal Immigrants that will take priority over education:

1) Create a new bureaucracy to provide Drivers licenses for an estimated 1.4 million illegal immigrants (Assembly Bill 60) The cost over the next three years is expected to be more than $140 million and the State expects to hire 1000 new employees and open four temporary DMV offices by Jan. 1.

2) State Sen. Ricardo Lara (who represents the City of Bell) introduced legislation late last week that would extend health-care coverage to all Californians “irrespective of immigration status.” http://sd33.senate.ca.gov/news/2014-12-01-senator-ricardo-lara-introduces-health-all-act

3) State Sen. Ricardo Lara also introduced a bill to establish the California Office of New Americans to help immigrants better integrate into the State.http://sd33.senate.ca.gov/news/2014-12-01-lara-introduces-bill-establish-california-office-new-americans

4) In September Governor Brown signed Legislation to help unaccompanied minors with legal services http://gov.ca.gov/news.php?id=18658

and it goes on and on and on

California Democrats care more about illegal immigrants than the children of middle-class legal residents (irrespective of their wealth, race or ethnicity)

It is always the middle-class that looses in California.
