Oscar-winning actress Diane Keaton has joined the cast of the eight-part HBO drama on the beginning of Pope Pius XIII’s pontificate “The Young Pope,” portraying an American nun living in Vatican City, the premium pay cable channel announced today.
Jude Law will star in the title role. Production begins this week. Additional casting will be announced soon for the co-production that also involves the British satellite broadcasting company Sky and the French premium cable channel Canal+.
“The Young Pope” will be directed by Paolo Sorrentino, who directed “The Great Beauty,” which won the Oscar for best foreign language film of 2013.
