Drowning Toddler Rescued In Rancho Santa Margarita
A 2-year-old that drowned in a backyard swimming pool in Rancho Santa Margarita was rescued by a family member as OCFA raced to the scene.
RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, CA — On Friday afternoon, a toddler fell into the backyard swimming pool of a Lomita Drive home, drowning. Luckily, a family member was able to rescue the 2-year-old from the water.
"Orange County Fire Authority units arrived at the scene and transported the toddler to an area hospital in stable condition," OCFA Spokesperson Larry Kurtz said over Twitter.
According to OCFA, it only takes a moment for a drowning to become fatal. Even when you have rescued someone that has drowned, their lungs are often still full of water and medical attention is not only necessary, but imperative.

The Orange County Fire Authority reminds all to remember the ABC's of Drowning Prevention:
- Always have an Adult watching. Designate a water watcher
- Barriers: Every pool must have mutliple barriers
- CPR: Adults and teens should enroll in First Aid classes
