Drug Bust No Downer In Rancho Santa Margarita

Rancho Santa Margarita deputies took nearly 100 pills off the street on New Year's Eve weekend.

RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, CA β€” The Orange County Sheriff's Department Rancho Santa Margarita division deputies took nearly 100 Xanax pills off of the street on New Year's Eve, according to reports.

Deputies from the Rancho Santa Margarita OCSD discovered a suspect who was selling the illegal prescription downers to area juveniles. Verified Xanax pills were collected during the seizure.

Xanax, a sedative, also known as Alprazolam, is prescribed for anxiety or panic disorder. According to DrugFree.org, Xanax can cause paranoid or suicidal tendencies and impair memory, judgment, and coordination and when combined with other substances, namely alcohol, the effect of Xanax can cause decreased or slowing of breathing and even death.

The removal of the pills from circulation was cause for celebration, and even a photo op over social media.

"Lots of report writing after one of your Rancho Santa Margarita deputies located a suspect selling illegal prescription pills to juveniles in the area," an OCSD spokesperson said over Twitter. In all, 81 total Xanax pills were taken off the streets of Rancho Santa Margarita.
