RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, CA — Two goats were found abandoned and roaming on top of Saddleback Mountain Tuesday, and the community was sought to get them the veterinary help they need.

The goats were rescued this week, resident Sadie Marvick told Patch, after her brother spotted the goats while he was out dirt biking.

"It was clear they were domestic from their friendly and trusting demeanors," Marvick said. "We all put our heads together and were able to get them rescued."

While the goats are safe from coyotes and the elements, they are not out of the woods yet.

"They had been out there at least a week and miraculously survived, but they are pretty banged up," Marvick said. "One fellow appears to have been mauled and is missing and eye and is fighting some type of infection."

Orange County resident Kelly Bunker Rivers said they were rescued dehydrated and malnourished.

"It took a village to rescue them and get them to safety...one has a puncture wound." She told Patch. "They were most likely dumped."

Marvick started a GoFundMe page in order to help pay for necessary veterinary bills.

"We would be so grateful for your support in paying the vet and feeding these little miracle goats," Marvick wrote on GoFundMe.
