Power Malfunction Dims the Lights in Rancho Santa Margarita

About 125,000 San Diego Gas & Electric customers experience a partial loss of power Monday morning. Crews are investigating the cause.

Residents throughout Southern Orange County awoke to dimmer lights, flickering electronics and blinking traffic signals thanks to a malfunction affecting power to 125,000 San Diego Gas & Electric customers.

The outage was first reported at 7:30 a.m., and crews were able to isolate the problem and restore full power by 9:30 a.m., said Amber Albrecht, San Diego Gas & Electric spokeswoman. The outage was partial, said Albrecht. Customers didn’t lose all power, but they would have noticed dim or flickering lights, she said.

“We are investigating the cause right now,” Albrecht said.
