Power Outages In Orange County: SoCal Edison Emergency Shut Off
Residents of Modjeska Canyon were without power Wednesday as Santa Ana winds raged. More power outages could affect nearly 7,000 residents.
RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, CA — Residents near Foothill Ranch and Trabuco Canyon were under alert Wednesday, as SoCal Edison shut off power in the high fire risk area of Modjeska Canyon.
Due to increasing, and at times hurricane-force winds in the Santa Ana mountain range, SoCal Edison initiated their Public Safety Power Shutoffs. Roughly 71,000 homes across Los Angeles County, San Bernardino County, Riverside County, and Orange County were affected on Wednesday.
Still, more residents were alerted their homes may be at risk of power shutoff.

Roughly 7,000 Orange County customers in Irvine and Lake Forest, as well as unincorporated areas remained at risk of power shutoff overnight, SCE said. Those impacted could include:
- Irvine (Map 1),
- Irvine (Map 2),
- Lake Forest,
- Unincorporated areas including Bee Canyon map 1, Bee Canyon map 2,
- East of Siphon Reservoir,
- Irvine Regional Park,
- Orange Park Estates,
- Modjeska,
- Portola Hills,
- Silverado
"When there are potentially dangerous weather conditions in fire-prone areas, we may need to call a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) event," a spokesperson for SoCal Edison said.

During these events, SoCal Edison proactively turns off the power in high fire risk areas to reduce the threat of wildfires.
"Turning off our customers' power is not something we take lightly, but PSPS events are one of the ways we can better ensure the safety of the public, our customers, and our employees," they said.
