'Rainbow Of A Lifetime' In Rancho Santa Margarita: Photo Of The Day

RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, CA — Though Orange County residents are getting used to the hot and muggy summer weather, the last day of July saw a very brief reprieve from the scorching heat with tropical monsoonal conditions.

South Orange County photographer Scott Plummer was visiting Altisima Park in Rancho Santa Margarita to photograph the moon rising at sunset when he witnessed the rare monsoonal weather give way to a breathtaking rainbow.

"I was at the right place, at the right time, waiting for another show of mother nature when this appeared in front of my camera," Plummer said. "Many people at the park were stunned into silence, grabbing for their cellphones as the massive rainbow appeared over them."

He told Patch the rainbow was "one of the best" he's seen in his lifetime.
