RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, CA — The longest day of the year took place Tuesday, and with it came a sunset that had residents leaving their homes with cameras in tow to capture the ephemeral moment.

Photographer Scott Plummer was one of those residents. Plummer took these pictures at an overlook near Altisima Park in Rancho Santa Margarita, one of his frequented locations to shoot photos.

Plummer noted that since his photography was previously published in Patch, the number of residents visiting the overlook has grown.

"Everyone trying to capture that last ray of sunlight on the longest day of the year," Plummer said of this photograph he shot near Altisima Park in Rancho Santa Margarita Tuesday evening (Scott Plummer Photography).

"Young people will pitch hammocks across the street to watch the sunsets and do homework, its a very chill area for people to relax," Plummer told Patch. "On nights when an amazing sunset could happen, you can have up to 10 cars parked and 20 people with cameras taking photos of the sunset."

"Welcoming the longest day of the year and the start of summer," Plummer said of this photo he shot near Altisima Park in Rancho Santa Margarita Tuesday night (Scott Plummer Photography).

Some came with phones and cameras in tows, while others came empty-handed. Plummer snapped a shot of a young man with his arms outstretched toward the horizon and told Patch that he was just there to experience the sunset.
