Trabuco Canyon Resident to Join Commission in Charge of Creating Cities

The Orange County agency responsible for creating new cities and adding to others has a new member representing South Orange County.

The Orange County Local Agency Formation Commission is dealing with issues such as what to do with the new development of Rancho Mission Viejo and other unincorporated areas, such as Coto de Caza and Las Flores. Many of their current agenda items involve South County areas.

Derek J. McGregor, a resident of Trabuco Canyon, will begin a four-year term that commences July 1. He is a member of several local and regional boards and organizations that include the Orange County Transportation Authority Environmental Oversight Committee and Citizens Advisory Committee, Trabuco Highlands Community Association, formerly with Santa Margarita Landscape and Recreation Corporation, and is the founding member of the Community Associations of Rancho, a cooperative effort of the master associations in the City of Rancho Santa Margarita to address community wide issues.

McGregor owns and operates DMc Engineering, a Civil Engineering and Land Surveying firm established in 1987. He brings more than 30 years of professional experience as a civil engineer and land surveyor and as an active community leader in South Orange County, according to a LAFCO press release.

However, McGregor is not new to LAFCO. He served as an alternate public member since 2009.

“As a Commissioner, Mr. McGregor is consistently prepared for each meeting through his thorough review of each LAFCO project and proactively engages in Commission discussions and with staff to ensure that the issues involving the public are addressed," OC LAFCO Executive Officer Carolyn Emery said in a statement. "His knowledge of the governance issues and key stakeholders in South County will be valuable in the Commission’s effort to develop long-term options for the South County study areas."
