Man sentenced to life in prison for crossbow murder in Redding (redding.com) — A Shasta County jury has sentenced a 63-year-old Anderson man to 28-years-to-life in prison for a 2025 crossbow killing on Radio Lane in Redding. Prosecutors said the deadly confrontation followed an escalating dispute between neighbors over a truck and other conflicts, and the victim’s children shared emotional impact statements in court describing how the loss has affected their lives.

Arborist urges Shasta County residents to monitor tree health as fire season nears (krcrtv.com) — With fire season approaching, a Redding-based arborist is urging Shasta County and Redding residents to closely monitor their trees for dead limbs, leaning trunks, and root issues that could increase fire or wind damage risks. He recommends favoring native oaks, leaving roots uncovered, and providing occasional supplemental watering in Redding’s heat to keep trees healthier and safer near homes.
   

3. Redding to begin looking for new operators of the Civic Auditorium (krcrtv.com) — Redding city leaders are weighing whether to keep funding the Civic Auditorium while they seek a new operator, after Advance Redding couldn’t present a self-sustaining business plan. Council will decide how much transitional support to provide, with a proposal of $80,000 a month as they draft new lease terms and request proposals for future management.
   

4. Northern Section baseball playoffs first round results and top stats (redding.com) — Northern Section high school baseball playoffs are underway, and Redding Christian rolled to a 13–0 first-round win over Hayfork in single-elimination action. Several other North State teams, including Chico, Pleasant Valley, and West Valley, also advanced, while lower seeds now face tougher paths or elimination as the bracket tightens heading into the next round.
