‘Big Pour’ to Mark Milestone in New Hospital Construction

Over 5,000 yards of concrete will be brought in during a 10-hour overnight work-a-thon taking place at Loma Linda University Health.

From Loma Linda University Health: March 25, 2017 will mark a major milestone in the construction of the new hospital at Loma Linda University Health. Over 5,000 yards of concrete will be brought in during a 10-hour overnight work-a-thon, taking place on Saturday, March 25.

Starting at 10 p.m., 550 concrete trucks will deliver their loads on the tight schedule of about one per minute, requiring what LLU Medical Center CEO Kerry Heinrich describes as “an amazing amount of choreography.”

This is the first “Big Pour,” as leaders are calling it, of a process that will amount in the end to 18,000 concrete yards composing a four-foot-thick foundation reinforced with steel.

The pour is being conducted on a weekend night to minimize impacts on patients, visitors and general traffic in the area.

However, members of the media can watch the process from the second floor corridor connecting the Children’s Hospital and the adult Medical Center.

Bright lights will be in place to illuminate this important milestone in the construction of Loma Linda’s new hospital complex.

Those who would like to watch should park in the P3 visitor structure located on Campus Street.
