Old California Botanicals Honored by State of California Following Eight-Medal Win at World Marmalade Awards
Old California Botanicals brings local citrus, heritage agriculture, and small business innovation to California food
Redlands, Calif. — May 2026 — Old California Botanicals, a Redlands-based citrus and specialty food brand, was recently honored by the State of California through Senator Rosilicie Ochoa-Bogh’s office in recognition of the company’s contributions to California agriculture, entrepreneurship, specialty food innovation, and the state’s economy.
Old California Botanicals was named a California State Small Business of the Year and recognized at a presentation ceremony in Sacramento. In a separate honor, Senator Bogh read a resolution on the floor of the California State Senate commending Old California Botanicals and its owner, John P. Beall.
The recognition follows Old California Botanicals’ first year producing artisan marmalades, during which the company earned eight medals at the Dalemain World Marmalade Awards, an internationally recognized competition dedicated to identifying the best marmalade in the world. The company’s marmalades are made with premium, locally grown California citrus and reflect Southern California’s historic citrus heritage.

“Old California Botanicals represents the intersection of California agriculture, entrepreneurship, food innovation, and agricultural policy leadership,” the Senate resolution stated, noting that the company demonstrates how heritage agriculture can be translated into premium consumer products.
The resolution also recognized Beall’s agricultural leadership, including his recognition as California Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers Discussion Meet State Champion and national semifinalist in the American Farm Bureau Federation Young Farmers and Ranchers Discussion Meet.

“These honors are incredibly meaningful because they recognize not only our products, but the agricultural legacy behind them,” said John P. Beall, owner of Old California Botanicals. “Southern California citrus helped shape California’s identity, economy, and landscape. Our goal is to carry that legacy forward through products that celebrate the quality, history, and flavor of California-grown fruit.”
The honors underscore the continued importance of San Bernardino County’s historic citrus industry, value-added agricultural products, and small business entrepreneurship as contributors to local pride, economic development, and California’s agricultural identity.
