3. Coast Guard suspends search for California dad who jumped off cruise ship (amedpost.com) — A Redlands father of three is presumed dead after going overboard from the Carnival Panorama during an anniversary cruise off Mexico, and the Coast Guard has suspended its search after covering more than 1,700 square miles. The longtime Esri programmer's family, who live in Redlands, now face heartbreaking uncertainty as officials say they'll only resume searching if new information emerges.
   

4. Redlands Police investigate shooting that left man injured on Orange Street (communityforwardredlands.com) — Redlands police are investigating a Sept. 19 shooting on Orange Street that left a man hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after firefighters and medics treated him on the sidewalk. In the same weekly update, officers detained two teens after a truck burglary on East Pioneer Avenue and made two DUI arrests tied to crashes on Central Avenue and Fifth Street.
   

5. A Supreme Court preview: PLF cases at the long conference (pacificlegal.org) — Owners of two Redlands shopping centers are asking the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn a 1980 precedent that lets California require malls to host petitioners and activists on their private property. Their case, alongside challenges to warrantless GPS tracking of lobstermen and mandatory implicit-bias training for doctors, will be considered at the Court's upcoming "long conference" as justices decide which petitions to hear.
