Spectrum organized a special event as part of HISTORY’s Take a Veteran to School Day outreach initiative, which took place on November 14 at Riverside STEM Academy. Honored veteran guests attended the event to receive a heartfelt “thank you” for their service.

This event brought together more than 100 students and veterans, and featured special appearances by Riverside Councilmember Andy Melendrez, Riverside Unified School District School Board Member Patricia Lock Dawson and Aaron Dill, Field Representative to CA State Assemblymember Jose Medina. The event honored Altie Holcomb, retired U.S. Marine Corps Captain and Field Representative to Senator Richard Roth.

“With more than 10,000 veterans working at Charter, we are proud to partner with HISTORY to celebrate Take a Veteran to School Day in Riverside,” said Adam Falk, SVP, State Government Affairs, Charter Communications. “By sharing their remarkable stories of service with today’s students, we ensure tomorrow’s leaders understand and appreciate their devotion to our nation.”

Take a Veteran to School Day is HISTORY’s popular public affairs outreach program, connecting veterans from all walks of life with students in schools and communities nationwide. In 2019, schools in all 50 states are expected to participate. As part of this campaign, HISTORY offers participating schools curriculum-based educational materials at www.veterans.com as well as short videos and additional resources, all provided free-of-charge. HISTORY also honors veterans through a social campaign in which people acknowledge the veterans in their lives using the hashtag #HonorAVet. Visit http://www.history.com/honoravet to learn more about how to participate in this campaign.

Take a Veteran to School Day is a key component of HISTORY’s broad veterans outreach campaign. HISTORY is also a proud partner of many veterans-based non-profits including Team Rubicon, a disaster relief organization that unites the skills and experiences of military veterans with first responders to rapidly deploy emergency response teams.
