2 Men Charged With Attempted Murder In Torrance

The shooting involved a 24-year-old San Pedro man, who was hospitalized and later released.

REDONDO BEACH, CA – Two men were charged with attempted murder in connection to a shooting that took place in Torrance last month. Gilbert Savala, 42, and Jose Cruz, 25, pleaded not guilty to allegedly attempting to murder a 24-year-old San Pedro man around 7 p.m. April 12 near Carson Street and Cabrillo Avenue.

The victim, whose name has not been released, was hospitalized and later released. Police did not provide details on the circumstances of the shooting, including a motive.

Savala was arrested five days later and is being held in lieu of $1.18 million bail. Cruz was picked up by police on April 25, and his bail was set at $2.045 million.

Both men are scheduled to appear in a Torrance courtroom on May 14 to get a date for a preliminary hearing that will determine whether there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial.
