28-Plus-Year Sentence for South Bay Man Convicted of Killing Ex-Wife's Boyfriend

COMPTON, CA - A Carson man who murdered his estranged wife's boyfriend in front of her two young children was sentenced Monday to 28 years and 8 months in prison.
Guillermo Hector Diaz, 30, was convicted May 17 of one count each of first-degree murder and first-degree residential burglary, along with two counts each of resisting an executive officer and dissuading a witness from reporting a crime.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Pat Connolly on Monday denied a defense motion for a new trial.

Jurors also found true an allegation that Diaz personally used a knife during the commission of the Dec. 22, 2014 attack on Robert Villagran.
Diaz broke into his estranged wife's South Los Angeles apartment and confronted her and her boyfriend before stabbing the man several times with a pocketknife, according to prosecutors.

Diaz prevented his estranged wife and her then-6-year-old daughter from calling police, prosecutors said.
He was arrested the day of the attack and has remained behind bars.
