6 Killed On California Roads In First 12 Hours Of July 4 Holiday

The reporting period began at 6:01 p.m. Tuesday and ended Wednesday at 6 a.m.

LOS ANGELES, CA -- The California Highway Patrol Wednesday reported that six people were killed on the streets and highways in its jurisdiction during the first 12 hours of this year's Independence Day holiday.

The reporting period began at 6:01 p.m. Tuesday and ended Wednesday at 6 a.m., the CHP said. During that same time period last year, there were 10 fatalities reported.

Statewide, there were 198 DUI arrests, down from last year's count of 263.
