Car Runs Over Toddler's Foot, Driver Detained In South Bay

A 2-year-old boy's foot was run over by a pickup truck Saturday.

TORRANCE, CA -- A 2-year-old boy's foot was run over by a pickup truck Saturday in unincorporated Torrance and the vehicle fled the scene, authorities said. The alleged hit-and-run happened at 4:35 p.m. at 20615 New Hampshire Ave., the California Highway Patrol reported.

The red pickup truck with a white tarp over the bed continued down the street but was quickly stopped by a Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy, Lt. Scott Aikin of the Carson Sheriff's Station told City News Service.

A man was driving the truck with a female passenger inside, Aikin said. The driver was detained and turned over to the CHP, which has jurisdiction in unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County.

The boy was taken to a hospital, Aikin said. But a dispatcher at the Los Angeles County Fire Department said paramedics responded to the scene but did not transport a patient.
