Car Strikes Guy Wire, Causing Outage, Class Cancelation at LA Southwest College

About 1,000 of the school's 3,500 students and another 100 faculty and staff were on campus when the power went out.

A power outage that affected nearly 1,800 Southern California Edison customers this afternoon prompted the cancellation of classes and two basketball games at LA Southwest College.

A vehicle struck a guy wire attached to a power pole, causing the wire to contact power lines, according to SCE spokesman David Song, who said the outage began about 2:30 p.m.

He did not have details about the crash, but said power was quickly restored to all but 73 customers. By 4 p.m., electricity was restored to the college at 1600 West Imperial Highway, Song said.
