Redondo Track Team to Compete at Parlauf Relays

Alright track & field fans, the first competition of the 2011 Redondo Union track season is this Saturday Jan. 29th at the Parlauf Relays. The meet info is attached as a pdf file.

If you've not been to this event before you should know that this is like nothing else that will happen the rest of the season. It is entirely unique. You have to see it. It is the only event I know of where sprinters, middle distance and long distance runners are competing in the same race.

As it says on the attached pdf file:

The competition will consist of one relay (5 x 200m x 8). Each team will consist of 5 athletes, and each of the 5 athletes will run 200 meters 8 times. Therefore the total distance covered (20 laps) will be 8000 meters (1600 meters per athlete; in 200 meter increments).

Yes, the entire meet is one type of event, consisting of four races in the different boys and girls divisions. But, everybody runs the same relay race. And since each leg in the relay is only 200 meters long, about 26 to 35 seconds, every race makes for a exciting high speed, high energy competition.

Since Redondo Union has so many runners that want to do this, they will often have more than one team entered in the same race. Sometime even three teams.

Come out and enjoy the fun and excitement. Also, bring a folding chair since WLA College is repairing the stands they are going to let everyone sit out on the in-field, another rare experience.
