Good News: L.A. Adding More Jobs; Bad News: It's Mostly Low Paying

LOS ANGELES, CA - Los Angeles County will add hundreds of thousands of jobs over the next four years, most of them low paying and below the median wage, according to the nonprofit Los Angeles County Economic Development Corp.

Office administrators and food servers will add the most positions through 2020, combining for a total of about 93,000 new jobs, according to the LAEDC. Those jobs do not require more than a high school diploma and pay less than the median household income in the state, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The county will gain only about 19,000 production and engineering jobs during the same period.

The LAEDC estimates that the county will add 346,000 jobs from 2015 to 2020, an average growth rate of 1.5 percent a year. The county has added 469,200 jobs since the rebound began in February 2010.
