I attended the annual Hammitt Sample Sale this past Saturday morning at the Manhattan Country Club.
Sample sales are to fashionistas what IPOs are to investors – and Hammitt enthusiasts came out in droves. Last year there were over 800 attendees. We’ll have to wait on the final count for this year.
The event was themed ‘Spring Break’ and while there were a few mothers and daughters enjoying quality time, it was, above all else, a groovy incentive for girlfriends to get together on a rainy Saturday morning for some fun, fizz, food and fashion.

The line for free general admission at 10 a.m. snaked through the lobby, out the front door and around the building. Proceeds from the purchase of VIP early entry tickets (9 a.m.) will benefit local charity, Walk With Sally.

An army of volunteers sported Spring Break t-shirts and beach attire, while guests lined up for photo ops with a boat cutout on Lake Hammittsu. A DJ spun high energy tunes and servers kept the shoppers’ thirst quenched with champagne and mimosas as they roamed from room to room in pursuit of the accessory of choice, the Hammitt bag.

Hammitt CEO, Tony Drockton, got the ball rolling by raffling off several Hammitt bags and introducing the beautiful young model currently featured in Hammitt ads.

Designer Stephanie Hammitt was in the house connecting with fans, discussing their purchases, making time for selfies….lots of selfies with bags.

All that shopping will whip up an appetite and guests were treated to an assortment of bites provided by the talented kitchen team at the Manhattan Beach Country Club.

Just when I thought I’d seen all there was to see, I noticed a line forming at the end of a hallway. I gained access and was ushered into a room packed with tables loaded down with yet more merchandise and covered with white tablecloths….no peeking allowed.

A stage was set up in the center of the room and featured a DJ, and musicians on trumpet and guitar, along with an artist creating a drawing on a large easel.

The double doors opened and enthusiastic shoppers flooded in. Within moments the room was packed with shiny, happy people.

The Hammitt team knows and appreciates their client base. They delivered a custom shopping experience created specifically for them…..and it must be said, shopping with sips, bites and music is an eminently pleasurable experience.
