Man Wounded in South Bay Police Shooting [UPDATED]

TORRANCE, CA- Police fired on -- but did not hit -- a man who was allegedly wielding a chainsaw Tuesday at a Southern California storage yard in Torrance. The man was later booked on suspicion of attempted murder and accused of trying to attack another employee, possibly his boss.

The officer-involved shooting occurred about 6:30 a.m. after a security guard called police to the storage yard in the 17600 block of Yukon Avenue, Torrance police Sgt. Paul Kranke said.

The suspect was spotted driving erratically in the area, and then was seen using a chainsaw to cause damage, according to reports from the scene.

Officers opened fire, but did not hit the unidentified suspect, who was taken into custody and transported to a hospital to be checked out, Kranke said.

The sergeant added that the man was booked on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and vandalism. When asked who the suspect was trying to attack, Kranke said it was "another employee."

ABC7 reported that the man was chasing his boss with the chainsaw.
