More Extravagant Fireworks Expected This July In Redondo Beach
Don't look for a new firework display to watch just yet – a solution may be in the works.
REDONDO BEACH, CA – After a disappointing lack of fireworks last year, the Redondo Beach City Council unanimously agreed at Tuesday night's meeting to direct city staff to come up with a proposal to launch fireworks from a barge outside King Harbor with a bigger, brighter display.
Previous fireworks shows were launched from a barge within the harbor, which limited the show, The Beach Reporter reported. A proposal from two groups – the Riviera Village Association, compiled of businesses in Redondo Beach's Riviera Village, and the South Bay Fireworks Committee, residents who donated money in 2018 to see the Torrance Beach fireworks continue –spurred the change, the newspaper reported.
The two groups offered the city a combined $30,000 toward the firework production, which costs more than double the donation, but the firework show would not where the groups initially wanted it to be, according to The Beach Reporter.

Both groups wanted the fireworks moved south of King Harbor, but instead the barge will be located just outside King Harbor, Assistant City Manager Mike Witzansky told the newspaper.
