Motorcyclist Killed In Crash With Pickup Truck In Torrance
Based on witness statements, it appeared the motorcyclist was racing another vehicle, police said.
REDONDO BEACH, CA — A motorcyclist apparently racing with a car was killed Tuesday when he crashed into a pickup truck that was making a turn in front of him in Torrance, police said.
The collision was reported about 9:35 a.m. on Pacific Coast Highway near Rolling Hills Way, according to the Torrance Police Department.
"The lone driver of a 2017 Ford F150 pickup was traveling east on Pacific Coast Highway approaching Rolling Hills Way before making a left turn into a driveway," according to a police statement. "The Ford pickup was ultimately struck by a 2017 Kawasaki motorcycle that was traveling the opposite direction on Pacific Coast Highway."

The motorcyclist, a 29-year-old San Pedro man, died at the scene. His name was withheld, pending notification of his family. The truck driver suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
"Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor," police said. "However, excessive speed appears to be (a) contributing factor in the collision at this time. Based on witness statements, it appears the motorcyclist was racing another vehicle, described as a light silver/gray newer model Dodge Charger. The Dodge Charger fled the scene without stopping."
