Is a proposed Christian school with a tiny bank account a better bet than an apartment complex? Tuesday night, the Redondo Beach Unified School District cast its lot with Ambassador High School despite concerns whether it would be able to raise the half a million dollars it pledged to win the lease for the Knob Hill Community Center

Over at City Hall on Tuesday night, council members all but threw up their hands about Seaside Lagoon. Mayor Mike Gin plans to make his case with the regional water quality control board one more time Thursday, but city leaders aren't holding their breath. The upshot: The lagoon may close when the city's temporary permit expires in 2013.

If you were planning to go on an expedition to see the blue whales that have been feeding off the Redondo coast lately, you're probably too late. Craig Stanton of Voyager Excursions advised Patch readers Tuesday night that "the mighty blues have left our local waters." He expects gray whales to start showing up in December. In the meantime you can always check out dolphins and other marine life in our water.
